Fidium Fiber doubles access in Pennsylvania in 2023, now serving more than 28,000 homes and businesses
Consolidated Communications expanded its all-fiber Fidium network to 14,600 more homes and businesses across Cranberry Township, Gibsonia, and more Pennsylvania communities in 2023
GIBSONIA, Penn. — Dec. 6, 2023 — Consolidated Communications doubled the availability of its Fidium Fiber service in Pennsylvania in 2023, which is now available to more than 28,000 local homes and businesses. Consolidated expanded Fidium to 14,600 more homes and businesses in 2023 after completing construction on its all-fiber network across Allegheny, Armstrong and Butler counties. Expansion within 21 area communities, including Cranberry Township, Bairdford, Freeport, Gibsonia, Mars, Middlesex Township, Sarver, Saxonburg and Wexford, means residents can now access Fidium’s multi-gig-speed internet, as well as the many benefits that come with reliable fiber internet access.
“Reliable, high-speed internet is no longer just a nice-to-have, but a necessity,” said Gabe White, senior director of outside plant engineering at Consolidated. “We are excited to have connected even more Pennsylvania communities to Fidium Fiber over the past year. We’ve seen firsthand how fiber improves lives, and how much of a game-changer it will be for local residents and businesses.”
Construction on the fiber-network began in 2021, with expansion accelerating in 2022 and 2023. In total, more than 370 miles of fiber have been installed by construction crews, for a network which provides multi-gig speed fiber internet with symmetrical speeds up to 2 Gigs (2000 Mbps).
Throughout construction, Consolidated proactively worked with municipal and state officials, as well as other local organizations to help keep the community updated on the construction project. This included regular meetings with local officials, outreach and alerts to communities ahead of construction beginning, and attending local town hall meetings on broadband to address questions from residents.
As a result of these efforts, Fidium Fiber’s multi-gig-speed internet is now available for more than 28,000 eligible residents and small businesses in Pennsylvania. Delivering multi-gig-speed internet without contracts, installation fees or data caps to residents, all Fidium plans offer reliable, symmetrical speeds from 100 Mbps to 2 Gigs (2000 Mbps). Fidium Fiber also offers VoIP phone service plans, and features speeds that allow customers to seamlessly stream their preferred TV and entertainment.
Fidium@Work delivers the same reliability, multi-gig speeds and ease of use our residential customers love, with the addition of more robust features entrepreneurs need to keep their business connected.
In addition to impact from fiber network expansion, Consolidated also made an impact through community involvement. Company employees participated in a number of local events in 2023, including Cranberry Township Days, St. Barnabus Charities Free Care 5k and Freeport Halloween Carnival, while also supporting local organizations, including Pine Richland Youth Center, Passavant Hospital Foundation and Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation, among other local causes and charities.
