Searsport Celebrating new Gig City Status at Ribbon Cutting on Aug. 31
Local officials, business leaders and community members will celebrate Searsport’s new status as a Gig City at a ribbon cutting on Aug. 31. In partnership with Searsport, aided by a $2 million grant from Maine Connectivity Authority, Fidium is now delivering reliable, multi-gigabit fiber internet to the entire town. Searsport can benefit from the economic, educational, employment and entertainment benefits that accompany better internet access.
Date: Aug. 31, 2023
Time: 5 – 5:30 pm
Location: Searsport Municipal Office
1 Union St.
Searsport, ME 04974
The celebration will include remarks by Doug Norman, selectboard chair, Simon Thorne, senior manager of government affairs for Consolidated Communications, and representatives from the Maine Connectivity Authority. Photo opportunities will be available throughout the event, with individual media interviews immediately following the event.
Fiber construction was completed recently, and the town is ready to celebrate new opportunities. Research shows that better internet increases home values, drives business innovations, allows growing businesses to stay in the community, and expands employment opportunities for the growing remote workforce.
