Fidium Fiber is promising to deliver gigabit-speed internet to communities like Dorset in Bennington County as fiber optic line becomes available in rural parts of the state
DORSET, Vt. —State leaders in Montpelier have been saying for years that high-speed internet is coming to every address in Vermont.
The COVID-19 pandemic revealed the widening gap between urban and rural areas throughout the state, but now, that promise is finally coming true.
The 14 towns that comprise the Southern Vermont Communication Union District are the first in the state to finally say they have broadband internet access for their residents thanks to a company called Fidium Fiber, which is promising to deliver gigabit-speed internet to communities like Dorset in Bennington County.
This week, NBC5 spoke with residents and leaders in southern Vermont as well as Fidium Fiber about what this leap forward in internet speed means for members of the larger community.
