Fidium Fiber expands fiber access in Eastport, connecting more residents to future-proof connectivity
More than 1,500 homes and businesses in Eastport have gained access to Fidium's all-fiber network, with additional expansion coming by year’s end
EASTPORT, Maine — Oct. 30, 2024 — Fidium Fiber has expanded its multi-gig speed internet service to Eastport, Pleasant Point, and parts of Perry, Maine, officially making its future-proof fiber network available to more than 1,500 homes and businesses in the community. Eastport, which will see even more residents connected later this year, was recently certified as a Gig Town during a ribbon cutting event, which celebrated fiber connectivity for the community.
“I welcome Fidium Fiber to our island,” said Jeanne Peacock, Eastport City Council. “They have been working all summer to string the high-speed internet to Eastport homes and businesses. The company workers are now hooking up homes whose owners have subscribed to their internet service. Fidium’s monthly introductory price and following year prices are well below what Eastport citizens have been charged by other companies with slower, older generation technology. I look at this an economic development opportunity for current business owners and those that may want to work remotely in a beautiful setting.”
Fiber broadband drives economic growth, in particular for rural communities, increasing business growth by 213% and leading to 44% higher GDP. For individuals, fiber access resulted in self-employment growth of 10% and increased per capita income by 18%. Fiber also increases real estate values, as single-family homes with fiber access have a 4.9% higher value than those without. Fidium’s expansion of its all-fiber network brings these opportunities and all the benefits that come with access to fiber broadband connection to Eastport.
“In expanding fiber access, we are proud to help build the future in Eastport,” said Sarah Davis, vice president of Market Development for Fidium Fiber. “Fiber brings tremendous benefits and transforms how we connect to one another, especially in rural communities, increasing access to educational, economic, healthcare and entertainment opportunities and options. We are excited to bring the benefits of Fidium Fiber to Eastport and more communities across Maine.”
Today, more than 270,000 Maine homes and businesses have access to Fidium, with additional availability is coming soon in Eastport and across the state. Residents and businesses may register to learn more and get updates about future service availability at FidiumFiber.com.
