A modem and a router may be two separate devices that are connected by wires. A modem is a small box that connects to the Internet using cables. It acts as a digital translator, taking an information signal (internet data) and making it accessible to your computer.
A router works with your modem to allow multiple devices like phones, tablets and computers to use a single network through a wired or wireless connection. The router’s main function is to create and send out the internet WiFi signal.
Sometimes, a single device called a gateway can function as both a modem and a router. (You might also hear the term modem router – it’s the same thing.) It’s a one-stop shop for Internet connectivity. That’s what Fidium provides with our WiFi 6 gateway.
A wireless extender is like pushing someone on a swing who’s already moving. Your push makes them go a little faster. A wireless extender gives the WiFi signal a little push to help it reach all your connected devices.
